Biographical note

The collection seems to have been started by one Richard Carr, of Leyland, Lancs., who penned his ownership inscription inside the front cover. The latest date discernible in the collection is 1850 (p. 102) in an entry apparently in the same hand, although there are undated recipes later in the volume in other hands that are undoubtedly later.
