    The prevalence of Scarlet Fever which existed in the latter months of 1899 continued throughout a greater part of the year. I hough the cases have been numerous, the fatalities from this disease have been comparatively few. We now consider two or three deaths from Scarlet Fever in a week a large number ; just over 25 years ago, when the first Medical Officer of Health was appointed, the deaths from the same disease numbered for several weeks from 20 to 30 per week. One can hardly compile a report on the closing year of the century without reference to the remarkable advance which has taken place during its latter years in Sanitary Science, and comparing the conditions which existed in the town previous to the appointment of Health Officials, and the iormation of a Health Committee, and those which exist to-day. Allow me to tender you my sincere thanks for the support and assistance you have invariably rendered me during the year. I must also record my appreciation of the willing manner in which all the members of the staff, whether at the Hospital or in the Health Department, have carried out any instructions I may have given.
