No text description is available for this image![GLANDS The lymphatic glands of the body help to protect children from illness. The glands in the neck, in the arm-pits, in the groin and bends of the elbow and knee are active scavengers, helping to keep poisons out of the blood- streams. In some illnesses, or when the child is run down, one or more of these glands may swell very considerably. Swollen neck glands are very frequently seen. Later in life, when general bodily resistance is improved, these glands cease-to work so hard, just as the tonsils diminish when school- days are over. If your child is troubled with swollen glands, remember that sunshine, fresh air, cod liver oil and malt are proving much better treatment than the old-fashioned operation.
