    bered, not to throw in the air in a forcible man¬ ner ; inftead thereof, it muft be gently and gra¬ dually fupplied : firft a little ; then gently prefling the cheft to force part of it out; and thus conti¬ nuing about a minute, when the wdiole air is to be prefled out with a greater force, and a large infla¬ tion made : for in ordinary refpiration the lungs are pafllve.
