![During the fifty-two weeks of the year 1880 (terminating on Saturday, January 1, 1881), the .Returns of the Local Registrars record 20,783 births and 14311 deaths within the City; the numbers for the corresponding period of the previous year, 1879, were 20,841 births and 14,502 deaths. Of the births 10,619 were males and 10,164 were females, making the total Birth-rate of the City equal to 38’2 per 1,000, being the exact average of the previous ten years.
