![Section X.—General Remarks and Personal Proceedings. Administration. 61. I held the office of Sanitary Commissioner, Punjab, throughout the year. The office of Deputy Sanitary Commissioner, Punjab, was held by Captain W. F. Harvey, I. M. S. During the first four months of the year Captain Harvey was employed on the work of testing plague prophylactic. From May to September he inspected vaccination work, whilst during the last part of the year, in addition to the work of supervision of the special staff of vaccinators, he was engaged in conducting certain experiments in connection with vaselinated and glycerinated vaccine pulp. All this work left him but little time for sanitary inspection. 62. In January I halted at Delhi to wind up the medical and sanitary inspection work of arrangements there after the Coronation Durbar. In February Sanitary Commissioner. f visited the towns of Chunian, Mianwali, Hissar, Hansi, Sirsa, Kaithal, Gurdaspur, Mukerian, Dinanagar and 7 villages. In March I inspected the sanitation and vaccination of the towns of Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Machiwara, Jagraon and the vaccination work of 52 villages. I then proceeded to Campbellpur to attend a meeting held there for the selection of a site for the head-quarters of the new Attock district. After that I inspected Lyallpur and proceeded to Simla to inspect the water-works there. I then visited Mooltan and inspected the sanitation and vaccination of the town of Shujabaci and of 42 villages. In April I inspected the towns of Tkanesar, Ladwa, Karnal, Simla, Panipat, Sonepat and Delhi and went to Kasauli and afterwards visited the towns of Pind Dadan Khan, Rawalpindi and 15 villages. In May I inspected the town of Murree and the Lawrence Memorial Asylum there, also Dharmsala and Rohtak. I then went up to Simla, whence I proceeded to Kotgarh and inspected the vaccination work in Rampur-Bushahr State. In August, on the outbreak of cholera, accompanied by the Railway officials, I inspected the Simla-Kalka Railway Line and Road ; I also visited the towns of Delhi, Rewari, Amritsar and Rawalpindi. In September I inspected Rohtak, Gohana, Delhi, and came to Kasauli and inspected the Lawrence Military Asylum at Sanawar. In October I again inspected the sanitation and water-supply springs along the Simla-Kalka Road and went to Kasauli and visited Umballa city, where I went to Handesra to see the water-supply wells there and inspected Kalka. In November I inspected the vaccination work of several large and small villages in the Lahore Tahsil and then visited the town of Ferozepore. In December I inspected the towns of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jullundur and Sialkot. 63. The usual number of lectures was delivered by me to the students of the Medical College, Lahore, in my capacity of Pro- Lectures on hygiene. e tt • 1 J tessor o± Hygiene. 64. Captain W. F. During the year the Civil Surgeons inspected 204 towns and 1,248 Inspection work of Civil villages. The Assistant Surgeons inspected 8 towns and 59 Surgeons and Assistant villages. The largest number was inspected by the Civi] Surgeons. Surgeons of Gujranwala, Hoshiarpur, Mianwali and Rohtak. 66. In 1903 quinine was freely distributed in the districts of Rohtak, Gratuitous distribntion Kangra, Hoslrarpur, Ferozepore, Montgomery, Amritsar, of quinine. Gurdaspur, Gujrat, Skakpur, Rawalpindi, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Gurgaon. In the Gurgaon district, in addition to the free distribution of quinine, a special supply of quinine was procured and distributed in all fever-stricken tracts through the agency of Tahsildars during the unhealthy season of the year.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b31489308_0031.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
