Extensive ste})s were taken to deal with the disease. In the Wincanton District 24 of the 42 cases were at Uharlton llorethorne. The 70 cases at Taunton were spread through the year but the disease was most pre¬ valent during the months of July and September. Enteric Fever. The districts in viiicli anv considerable number of cases were met with were 25 in Wincanton Rural, 9 in Chard Rural and 7 in Taunton Rural. Of the \Mncanton cases 19 occurred at Templecombe and 4 at South Cheriton all, according to the report of the Medical Officer of Health, “ due to the drinking of con¬ taminated water.” Seven of tlie nine cases in Cliard Rural arose in Dowlish Ford. In regard to these cases th(‘ Medical Officer of Health gives the following ])articulars : “ The first case was evi¬ dently imported from abroad, and unfortunately the case died. Six })eo})le became infected lat('i*, ])ossibly through contamination of the water or food, which had been in- fec'ted by Hies or otherwise. Analysis of the water sup})ly showed no evidence of having been directly infected.” The seven cases in Taunton Rural were all in C^otford Asylum.
