Tmc total of the estimates given by the District IMedical Otficers of Healtli, many of \\hieh a})j)ear to have been arrived at witlioiit any definite basis of })roeedure as to rate of increase or decrease, is 232,001 for the Rural and 100,371 for the Urban Districts, giving a total of 302,432 for the Administrative County. The ( Viisus figures show that tlie i)opulation of the Administrative County for Ai)ril, 1011, Avas 407,345. Of this, however, 18,450 was lost at the end of 1011 by transference of part of the Rath rural area to Bath City, leaving the population of the x4dministrativc County, 388,800. On the assumption of the same rate of increase throughout the in¬ ter-census })eriod the population for the middle of 1013 works out at 303,830. The popu¬ lation of the Rural Districts estimated to the middle of the year is 232,085, and the Urban 101,745. These figures may be taken as the correct populations for the year. BIRTHS. From the figures given in the x\nnual Reports of the District IMedical Officers it appears that the number of births registered in tlie County was 7,530, being 74 more than last year. It is several years since there has been an increase of births over the previous year. The uncorrected birth-rates are given in Table I and for the individual districts in Tables 11 and III. Owing to the migration of young adults to the large towns the population contains a smaller pro])ortion of women of marriageable age. This can be allowed for by mul- tijfiying by a factor obtainable from the Census returns (It)Ol returns, 1911 not yet available). The results obtained are as follows :— Factor for Standardization.
