Differential Tests for Streptococct. The differential tests to which all streptococci have been submitted are nine in number.* The character of these tests and the nature of the response given to them by the five types of streptococci most frequently met with in human saliva, are shown in the following table :— Re-actions of Five Streptococci found to be most frequently present in the Normal Human mouth.t { An Acid Re-action produced in Broth | Gye | Change of containing Gs Colour produced N R id : Pl (anerobically)| 4 | Bes piatkss Hoa en afin Broth tinted |) S|. |g Cine Li ve with Neutral ie 2 ra) : | 3 H Bot | itmus Bee payee a lode ee ba Ee Fy sS = - | 8 & | | 2 | A | a wn oO |* L i ies : . | 1 | The commonest strep- + + | +}+ty}—]—] | —_ i — _ tococcus met with : | / | ‘> in 22 samples of | . saliva examined. 2 | Practically as common ats tr acl Thera leeeey Tat ri as No. 1. | 3 | A good deal less fre- ip a +i}4f},—f—f}—)/— . quent than the pre- | | ceding two. 4 | Much less frequent — — er ch ee tein ool ae than 3. | 9 | About as frequent as 4 4 a Fowl SAS REe| Ugo Te gee oe | = Differential Tests for Coli-like Bacilli. The differential tests to which all bacilli bearing an initial resemblance to B. coli have been submitted are eight in number.
