For non-infectious cases, accident cases, and maternity cases the service is provided by the Nelson Corporation, three vehicles are in use, with a permanent staff of 4. The depot for the service is situated in the Gas Works Yard off Leeds Road. This service is not confined to the limits of the borugh, but is available to the residents of Barrowford, Brierfield and the surrounding area of the Burnley Rural District. During the year a total of 3,468 patients were conveyed, the mileage covered bv the vehicles being 21,140. Removal of infectious cases is undertaken bv the Burnlev Joint Hospital Board. NURSING IN THE HOME. During the year no call was made on the District Nursing Association, under the existing arrangement whereby nursing assistance is given in cases of Measles with complications, Puerperal Pyrexia, and Ophthalmia Neonatorum is requested by the medical practitioner.
