Notes
This edition of the Dis Cuts zine explores the historic and contemporary resonance of the slogan "Jobs, Homes, Services, Not Racism." Originally adopted by the TUC in 2018 with reaffirmation of an amendment by Unite the Union, the slogan serves as a focal point for analyzing the material conditions—such as the housing crisis and austerity—that fuel social division. The zine creator developed a zine for Youth Against Racism in Europe (YRE) in the 1990’s with a headline visual ‘Jobs, Homes and Services not racism’. Historical political demands revisited. The zine adds to bridging the gap between political policy and grassroots solidarity and what tactics, strategies and slogans can effectively cut through racism in the current climate. Some of the content examines how decades of austerity under successive governments have been exploited to scapegoat migrants and asylum seekers. Key themes include: • The link between the housing crisis, deepening poverty, empty homes privatisation and the use of divide and rule enabling racism and the far right to flourish. • Limitations of mainstream political parties (including Labour and Reform UK) regarding disability and housing cuts as well as campaign groups such as Stand Up to Racism who were behind the approach of Together Alliance. • Historical models of solidarity, specifically Fred Hampton’s "Rainbow Coalition" and its challenge to systemic exploitation. • When rent freezes have taken place and homes built and repaired • Art as a tool to share and discuss responses in various mediums.
This edition features a mix of activists, poets, and artists, including contributors connected Arti Dillon, Bee Pauwaert,Caglar Kimyoncu,Cheng Xie, Cheri Gillings, Deji Olayinka, Ekaterina Mendor, Katie Simpson, Liliana Dmitrovic, Lindsay Bush, SD/RO, Suz Muna,Vanessa Doidge and quote from Audre Lorde
Launched digitally at the Social Housing Action Campaign (SHAC) Conference in London (October 18, 2025) with an adapted presentation for 100 attendees with a zine online version. In March 2026, it was updated as a contribution to the discussion on how to fight racism and the far right with 400 copies printed with sponsorship by Southwark Trades Council to a demonstration of ½ a million. A targeted distribution was given to the London and Eastern Unite Union Regional Committee, including a specific motion agreed by a unite branch around the subject.
This is the second in the Dis Cuts series. The first edition, focused specifically on disability cuts, with significant input from DPAC members which is also held in the Wellcome Collection Archive after successful distribution of 400 copies at the Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival. It carries the immediate as well as historical and simple ways to bypass blocks or bureaucratic manoeuvring to share material. With an intentionality to distribute in a targeted way in the struggles taking place to reflect, dissect and move through the noise for and with people before profit, the distribution of land and resources for and with the majority of society not a tiny parasitical elite.
