About this work

Description

This film shows the many and varied problems which confront familes and especially those with disabled children. Divided into four case studies; the first is a child in residential care who visits his family at weekends. Shot as a fly on the wall insight into family life with the father speaking to the camera. The second case study is a large Irish heritage family, with the youngest born with cerebral palsy; the parents comment on their family life. The third case study is an Asian heritage family with a child living with epilepsy (he shows some distress with having to wear protective head gear). The final case study is a family with a child who has Autism; the mother provides a narration to the soundtrack and illustrates the lack of understanding and support for autism at the time. A final section shows older parents who care for their disabled daughter.
