Confidered as a fubje&t of Medical Phi- -lofophy, Fixed Air appears likewife to be of extenfive importance. If we attend to the ftate of the animal ceconomy in health, we find it prefent in the ftomach and in- teftines, as developed by the procefs of digeftion ; and we find alfo, from the ex- periments of Dr. Hales, Sir John Pringle, Dr. Macbride, and others, that Fixed Air enters very univerfally into the compofition of animal fubftances.
