With the present staff, it is impo.ssible to give this work the desired attention. At the premises visited, many improvements in connection with lighting, venti- lation and sanitary accommodation have been obtained. (See list of improve- ments). Hairdressers’ and Barbers (Byelaws). 10 Visits to premises. Diu'ing inspection of these pi’emises, it has been found that in sevei'al cases sufficient attention is not given to the cleanliness of the hair brushes, or the quality, as many old and worn out brushes were found in service. To prevent occupiers pleading ignorance of the Byelaws and their require- ments, a copy has been forwarded to all hairdre.ssers. Ice Cream Registration. 17 visits to premises. A great improvement is maintained in the storage and retailing of Ice Cream. Very few retailei's make their own pioduct as the multiple firms, in addition to supplying the ice cream in various wrapped sizes, provide well covered con- tainei’s for the storage of same. There has been no cause for complaint during the past season in respect of T’c.tailers, premises or utensils. Smoke Abatement. .•Vlthough there are no large factories or works at Clacton, frequent nuisance is caused from the chimneys of laundries, restaurants and small bakehouses. Smoke from railway locomotives in the vicinity of the station is also a source of com- plaint.
