    conditions other than anffiuiia, but this does not qualify the experience that it is occasionally met with in patients free from all evidences of disease except anaemia (Fig. 3). Nor does it negative the suggestion that tlie proximate cause of the condition, whether when associated with anaemia, or other- wise, may be thrombosis. It is no doubt true that retro-bulbar neuritis is sometimes an event in the evolution of disseminated sclerosis. But most certainly it exists apart from this disease. Indeed it occurs in patients in whom clmical observation, even when extended over a term of years, fails to detect any evidence of organic disease, and some of these are anaemic women, that is, are patients in whom thrombosis is a well- Tecoanised possibility. Thus there seem to be reasons to acceSt the view that while some ocular complications m anSa may be due to thrombosis of the intracranial veins and Minuses, others may depend upon thrombosis m the vessels probably the veins, of the peripheral visual apparatus, and
