    powers as far as the digestive organs will admit. When you have reason to believe that the blood is poisoned by urea, as in renal disease, you will frequently find the hot-air bath of service ; and you must give drastic purgatives, such as elaterium, or the compound powder of jalap, or the Iberis amara. In fine, as a general rule in the treatment of the comatose state which does not arise from pressure, you must bear in mind what I think I have made out in these lectures,—namely, that delirium is the slighter degree, and coma the more aggra¬ vated condition of the same state; hence, in a great measure, the treatment of the two conditions must be similar ; for coma and delirium differ from each other in de¬ gree, the former being only an advanced stage of the latter affection.
