Tlie Joint Hospital Board agreed at tlieir last meeting tliaL the cost of the wdiole scheme was so large, a portion only of it should he ])roceeded Avitii, viz : the administrative hlock, one ward block, laundry and mortuary, together with the necessary fencim>* and drainage. 3.—WATER SUPPLY. In consequence of a complaint to the Inspector of Nuisances from the residents at the Moor, Melhourn, that the water from the well supplying their cottages was discoloured and unfit for di'inking, the Avell was cleaned out by order of the District Council, but as the residents still refused to drink the water a sample was taken for analysis and found to be polluted. At the sugg’estion of the Medical Officer of Health a forty gallon tank Avas provided to catch the rain Avater, and the residents advised to discontinue the use of the Avell Avater for other than domestic purposes. A systematic inspection of the Avater supply of this village has been commenced during the year and Avill be continued from time to time as opportunity alloAvs, At Litlington in consequence of complaints as to the pollution of a Avell at a cottage in Silver Street OAving to being improperly covered, the Avell Avas cleaned out, the pump repaired, a neAv cover provided, and a drain near by diverted. Another Avell at some cottages nearby Avas cleaned out and domed over Avith brickAvork. An accident similar to the one mentioned in my report for the year 1898, occurred to the Avater supply near the school during November. The reservoir Avas j)umped out and the Avatercourse cleared. In consequence of the order of the Authority to close the Avell at the White Horse, Melbonrn, as mentioned in my report tor the year 1899, a fresh boring has been made to a depth of about 30 ft., the upper part of Avhich has been piped and ])uddled Avitli cement, and a satisfactory supply has been obtained. At Great Chishall in consequence of complaints as to the offensive state of the Avater from the public tap in the High Street, Avhich is supplied from the reservoir at the Stonk,^^ an inspection of the reservoir was ordered by the Council.
