Never allow either narcotics or alcoholic stimulants {in any form whatever) to be administercdl to infants or children, excepting under medical di- rection and care.—In connection with this important caution, (and with some other points in the manage- ment of infancy), we have found it necessary to speak rather severely (see pages 42 and 43) of the practices of a certain class of nurses. Of course, we would not have our censures indiscriminate!y, applied to all nurses. Fortunately, we may add that we have observed, with pleasure, during late years, some considerable improvement in the quali- fications of these valuable servants; and we maj* hope that, as the result of such a course of instruc- tion as is now given in the ' Institution for tlio training of Nurses,' far greater improvement wil soon become visible.—If a dentist requires a special training to qualify him to treat properly only om part of the human fi'ame; surely, we ought t educate for her office the nurse to whom we intrus in a great measure, the welfare of a child's whol constitution. .1. 13.
