About this work

Description

"Doctor Leuthner", referring to the head at lower left, is likely to be Johann Nepomuk Anton von Leuthner (1740-1814), physician of Munich. Klotz might be Simon Petrus Klotz (1776-1824), a Munich artist who had visited Italy and was Professor of the Theory of Fine Arts at the University of Landshut from 1804 to 1807, when mental illness obliged him to resign his post. The man caricatured in the centre has not been identified
