![In addition I'esults of 10 bacteriological analysis of water from Trosley Pump- ing Station (Mid Kent Water Co.) were received—all were satisfactory. There is no pluml)o solvency. Typical hardness figures are:— Total Temporary Permanent 310 230 80 pts. per million At the end of 1948 the position was as follows;— 9,984 houses su])plied by Metropolitan Water Board or Mid-Kent Water Co., of which 38 were supplied by stand-pipe. Quantity and quality satisfactory. 65 houses supplied by piped supply from well in Lullingstone Park—Parish of Lullingstone. Quantity and quality satisfactory. 24 houses supplied by piped supply from well at Court Loidge Farm—Parish of Horton Kirby. Quantity and quality doubtful. 9 houses supplied by piped sup])ly from one well at Sutton House, Clement Street, Swanley Bottom. Quantity satisfactory quality doubtful. 17 houses supplied by puni]) or bucket from ad.jaeent wells. Quantity and quality mostly unsatisfactory. 26 houses supplied by rain water. 10,125 Total. Drainage and Sewerage. The Council’s Engineer has supplied the following information:— The Darenth Village scheme was completed during the year, 652 yards of sewer were laid and connected to the Darenth Valley Main Sewer; 10 houses were connected. Work on the Bean sewerage scheme in the Paihsh of Stone was begun in December. At Franks Lane, in the Parish of Horton Kirby, the existing sewer was ex- tended by 80 yards and 2 cottages were connected thereto. Birch wood Road scheme for the laying of 1,322 yards of sewer was approved by the Ministry of Health. Small sewerage disposal units were constructed at Merton Avenue, Hartley, and Fawkham Road, Longfield, to serve the new Housing sites there. During the year 102 premises were connected to the sewer. At the Council’s outfall works at Stone new pumping apparatus was installed in the Autumn, thereby enabling the treatment of sewage to be continuous with the production of a better effluent.
