    Once again, the annual sewer treatment produced an excellent result. Forty manholes at selected points throughout the town were baited and checked over a period of two weeks. Not one of these points showed any evidence of acceptance, and following upon the previous years results, it is fair to assume that the towns* sewers must now be virtually free of rodents. ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION In general, little trouble is experienced here from air pollution of any sort. The factory which in previous years had given rise to a problem of grit and soot emission finally ended the difficulty by moving the particular process which caused it, to another part of the Country. Apart from an accidental leakage of fumes from another works, which was quickly put right, no other complaints occurred during the year. PUBLIC HEALTH ACT - GENERAL One item of interest during this year was the decision by the Council to make a grant towards the cost incurred by a local Church to have carried out a narcotising treatment for the eradication of feral pigeons from their premises. Considerable fouling of the pavement occurred at this place which apart from anything else, did constitute a hazard to pedestrians from slipping, particularly as the pavement in question had a substantial incline. The actual treatment however, had not been carried out by the end of the year, although pre-baiting had taken place. There is one premises only licenced under this Act, and this operated satisfactorily throughout the year. -17-
