![late surniiier and £191 persons were X - R^^yed, identifying £ cases of active tuberculosis and 19 cases of inactive or recovered tuberculosis, half the persons attending came when the iviass X Ray bnit yjas stationed at the Drill Hail end the rest were done at visits to the Pdchboroiigh factories. .Altogether 31 per cent of those examined had not been X ra^T-ed before. It is worth nentioning in these days when radiation has become fireside talk that to go through the Iv^ss X iiay Unit is comnlete;*' ly safe from that point of view. The dose of radiation is no more than you v/ould experience by moving from a brick house to a granite house for six raonths in the year, and is therefore a safe and natural feature of nresent day precautionery arectice. Protection against Infectious Disease by immunization and vaccination is provided by the County Council Clinics and the familj^ doctors. The following figures renresent the wears progress. Diphtheria - Primary Immunization V7hDoping Cough Smallpox Primary Vaccination Heve. ccinat ions Poliomyelitis Total 15 & under No \7ith £ in.1 act- ions given 1958 No with £ inject- 689 598 ions given 1959 No with 3 inject- 436 140 ions given 1959 631 5E0 Number up Total to S^wevrs. 67 ^ : 61 rs 24 69 6£ 50 42 £0 Under £ Adults & Priotities 79 86 310 62 QQ These figures shog that the protection against dip]itheria is being maintained at a reasonable level; that protection against wnooping cough is being riven to most inf'^nts; and that a better percentage of smallpox vaccination is being achieved in infants, more than 50y now. The take un of poliomy¬ elitis vaccination by those over 15 years of age is disappointing especially 'when the vaccine is actually made in the Borough. Out of the children up to and inclining age 15 there are 537 children fully protected against diphtheria and 409 partially protected. £](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30070831_0007.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
