![Tho incidence of Scarlet Fever and Diphtheria in Rad- norshire during .1922 was as follows Scarlet Fever Diphtheria Urban Districts ‘35 3‘00 Rural Districts 19 •68 County IT) t'28 There wore no deaths from Diphtheria in 1922; a female in tho age period 5-15 years, who resided in tho Knighton Rural District, died from Scarlet Fever. Diphtheria was prevalent in Prcsteigno during the autumn. The first cases occurred among children attending Ilercford Street School and by December 31st, 17 isos had !• on notified—13 children and 4 adults. In an urban district the disease can be controlled if a is ‘S are reserved to Hospital and positive contacts excluded fr in day and Sunday school ; it is generally found that when a school is closed the children still come together in the ■.roots, cinemas, etc. During the Christmas holidays the Medic ‘ Officer ■ f Health, Dr. Milner arranged for disinfection of the School, ml all books, papers, pen holders etc., that could not be ; rnpcrly disinfected were burnt. In his opinion mild unrocog- d cases had probably been occurring for some time : fore tho first case was recognised and notified. Swabs were taken from suspicious cases in school by V’ School Nurse and precautions were taken that no children ■-houId return to school until two successive throat swabs ■ re negative. Dr. Milner mention that owing to the want of an Isol- m Hospital the major' of the later cases were caused mingli previous cases ,... the same house, and very few 1,1 f> 1 were infected, considering the number of cases. .
