Description
Journal of C. T. Haden written aboard the Emma, a private yacht owned by Sir William Curtis (1752-1829) M.P. Emma sailed from Ramsgate to the Mediterranean escorted by H.M.S. Weazel, landing at Gibraltar, Malaga and Malta, where Haden died. The diary records scenery and conversations en route: the author describes the civil and military hospitals of Gibraltar, physicians and diseases in Spain and other medical topics, including his own fatal illness.

Biographical note
Haden is best known for having treated Jane Austen's brother, Henry, and subsequently becoming a friend of the author herself. He was surgeon to the Chelsea and Brompton Dispensary and father of Sir Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910) F.R.C.S. There is a biographical notice at the start of his posthumous work, Practical Observations on the Management and Diseases of Children (London: Burgess and Hill, 1827).
