![[ 1° ] their health, for their unwearied endeavours to preferve that deareft of bieflings. When they confider the conlined line to which the faculty are limited — that they have no time they can call their own — are difturbed in their fleep at night — and totally deprived, by bufmefs and anxiety, of the enjoyment even of one half day in the week; I am perfuaded the public cannot envy them the recompence they receive; they cannot hefitate to difcountenance a mo¬ nopoly, that, under the pretence of ceconomy, is calculated not only to deftroy the faith and con¬ fidence repofed in the faculty, and confequently the happinels of individuals in the hour of fick- nefs, but alfo to deprive a very ufeful and exem¬ plary part of the community of thofe profits, which, I will venture to fay, are earned with the greateft anxiety and labour. I am fo far from thinking the returns made to this department of practitioners adequate to the trouble which they undergo night and day, that I have often wondered they have not agreed upon fome general medium of applying a remedy more proportioned to their labour and Ration in life.
