About this work

Description

Left, a man wearing a feather head-dress stands next to a smoking altar and points towards the rising sun. Centre, women in prayer and devotion. Right, a young man with a bow and arrows. Possibly a subject in the novel Les Incas by Marmontel (1778) or the opera Alonso e Cora by Francesco Bianchi and Giuseppe Foppa. Leblanc mentions prints of "Les Incas" by Nargeot (Manuel de l'amateur d'estampes, vol. 3, p. 91). The woman in the centre would be Cora and the young man Tito Zoraï (Les Incas chapter III)
