I hail for progrefs, and wifli I could add a laurel to her brow. But let her not prefume to trefpafs on the hallowed enclofures of heaven’s own—immediate meflenger. Her feeble taper may light the curious philofophic eye thro’ nature’s walks. But it is the full unclouded fun of the everlafting gofpei that can alone with lafety guide the doubting mind of man thro’ the paths of religion to the world of immortality. The dove fent from the ark of reafon and philofo- phy wanders o’er a boundlefs expanfe—a dreary wafie of unfathomable waters. Fatigued with its fruitlefs excurfions it returns :—but brings no olive branch to me. Thanks be to the immortal re¬ deemer of the world, I receive this pledge of peace from a higher region.
