SOCIAL CONDITIONS The figures for unemployment at the end of 1972 show a significant decrease when compared with those at the beginning of the year. This is most reassuring as it suggests that the Council’s policy of encouraging industrial development is now producing recognisable effects. There is no need to emphasise in a report such as this, the value of prosperity and security to the health, both physical and mental of a close knit commun- ity such as Barnsley.
