Frs. 65.— Rare edition of this well-known French work containing the ‘‘ Chasse du loup ’’, which is very often missing. This book is of various and espe- cially medical interest: The first book treats with agriculture, and horticul- ture, treatment of all diseases of domestic animals, household in general, and dietetics, the second with medical and other plants, their uselfulness, the third deals with fruit-culture and confectionery, and particularly with distil- lation, the sixth with viticulture (preparation of medical wines), and the seventh with hunting. This work is especially esteemed on account of its illustrations and of the early book on wolfhunting by Clamorgan with fine woodcuts. — A very slight ink-stain in the upper margins of several leaves, lower-right-hand margins of last leaves with a few waterstains, otherwise a good copy of this rare book. Frankfurt, 1604.” Frs. 40.— Early edition of the first work of this most famous physician. ‘‘ Fabri- cius, a pupil of Faloppius, was unquestionably one of the greatest teachers of anatomy. Among his many claims to fame the greatest is perhaps that he taught Harvey ’’ (Singer). Fabricius’ studies influenced Harvey in his expe- riments to demonstrate the circulation of the blood. His surgical Pentateuch is divided into five books: De tumoribus praeter naturam, de vulneribus, de ulceribus et fistulis, de fracturis, de luxationibus. — Some quires of the book entirely browned on account of the poor quality of the paper. Frs. 65.— The most importent work in the history of ballooning, describing the first successful ascent at Annonay (June 1783) in a balloon made of packcloth, and inflated with heated air, as well as the historical ascent from the Champs de Mars in 1783. Faujas de St. Fond was the first to give a scientific account of ballooning. — Somewhat browned as usual, but fine copy. Rare.
