The like reafon holds with men and with cattle, in infedious diftempers: but as cattle may be killed out of the way, it fhould feem probable, that an infedious dif- temper among them might fooner be got rid of than among men. And in the cafe of the cattle, we need not long hefitate, from fear of a miftake in applying that ialutary rule of Ovid, Immedicabile vulnus Enje reddendum, ne pars Jincera t rah at nr. Therefore, I wifh that the law about kil¬ ling might be ftridly enforced, and that the executing of it may not be left to the owners, but committed wholly to the care of infpec- tors: that thefe infpedors fhould be appoint¬ ed and direded from time to time by the quarter-feffio ns: that they fhould be fworn to do their duty faithfully, both in killing and eflimating the value of the cattle : and that they fhould be properly rewarded, in proportion to the time and trouble which their
