In presenting a Second Edition of‘ this work to the Public, I do it with consider¬ able hesitation ; because, though the varied experiments I have made, sufficiently con¬ vince me that mercury produces a spe¬ cific action on the ganglia of the grand sympathetic nerves, yet I am aware that my investigations have not been carried so far as the subject demands.
