![Few or none of the European medicines are equal in efficacy to thofe vermifuges which the Eafl and Weft Indies fupply us with. Of thefe, the Oleum Riciniy or Caftor Oil, has its excellencies.-^—All, oily me- dicines, it is true, are deftru6live to worms. This oil, therefore, as an oil—not only, kills them, but from its purgative quality, carries them off by ftool.—When, how- ever, the worms have attained ftrength and f],ze, they elude the force of the oil, and re- main unhurt. The Worm-grafs is highly commended by many, and is allowed a place amo.ng the firll ■ Anthelminti(?s by thofe who have been ac- cufbomed to give it. Its ufe principally ob- tains among the free black and Mulatto women of Jamaica, who make a livelihood, by praftifmg phyfic among thofe of their own colour, with the medicinal he'rbs which na-, ture fo abundantly beftows in that climate. It is the Anthelmia of Dodlor Browne, and the Spigelia of Linnasus. It is alfo the Spigelia ramis indivifis, foljis terminalibus, verticillatis, Buttneri. ■ The preparations of it are an infufion, deco6tion, and the clarified juice.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21963915_0029.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
