But there are very few, even of the moft innocent.and palatable medi- cines, that are not attended with ^ pecu- liar inconveniencies, when taken in too large a dofe. Much has been faid about the particular time for gathering, and likewife, for admi- liifteting the cabbage-tree bark. It is a vulgar error, held by many, that the bark is not effeftual, unlefs it be taken from the tree when the moon is at full; others tell us, that its effeBs are only cer- tain at the fame feafon, and no other. I will not prefume to difpute how far the lunar influence may extend its power over the juices of vegetables i or whether there is in faa any material difference be- tween the circulating fluids of a plant, at this time, ^nd ^at other feafons. I muft, however, beg leave to differ from thofe who hold this opinion, as to the bark here men- tioned, becaufe I have found it to anfwer all my purpofes, although ftripped from the tree when the moorf was not ne:ir the full; and to be in.all refpeds as effeftual, when adminiftered at any other time of the
