![4S and the aggregate of the Urban and Rural Districts are set out in the following tables. The rise in the death-rate this year took place exclusively in the Rural Districts in contrast with 1940 when an exactly similar rise took place in the Urban Districts. Under the County Council Scheme for the treatment of cancer, 31 cases were sent to the Radium Institute, Man- chester, and of these 25 were retained for in-patient treatment. Two cases were admitted to the City Cxcneral Hospital, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and 1 case was admitted to the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Attendances for after-care at the Out-patient Depart- ment at the North Lonsdale Hospital during the year amounted to 7S. This is a increase of 20 on the previous year. During the year I submitted to you a report on the development of an interim scheme under the Cancer Act, 1939. A Cancer Committee for the area has been set up as a result of the Conference on this matter, and the Committee is considering various aspects of the problem, including the development of facilities for treatment at the Cumberland Infirmary, the establishment of consultative Clinics in West Cumberland, propaganda, and other relevant matters. The Committee is fully representative, and Mr. Thurgar— ; a Specialist in the treatment of cancer—from Newcastle, is one of the members, and it is hoped at a later date that Dr. Ralston Paterson, Director of the Christie Hospital » and Radium Institute, Manchester, will visit the area and . address an adjourned meeting of the Cancer Conference. • C.\NCER ]Je.«lThs during 1941—Bv Age CIroups. 15-4.S 45-fi5 05 All Ages 1 i *Tot tIs.
