![PREFACE The chaj)ter on Pliysical Training has been written for this book by Captain II. J. Koehler, U. S. Army (Director of Physical Trainin<jr at the l'nite<l States Military Acad- einy, West Point, and an exjiert of international rej)nte). The majority of the illustrations not otherwise credited were ])repared by Mr. Stockbridge, of the Dej)artment of Drawing, U. S. M. A., through the courtesy of the head of that De])artment. In the discussion of “Alcohol and other Narcotics,” the aim has been to enable pupils to form an intelligent opinion upon the whole subject and e.specially to distinguish between mere assertion and scientific eyidence. While certain of the data in this chai)ter cannot be accei)tcd as wholly proyed, they yet rej)resent the yiews of the ablest inyestigators every where. With a clear comprehension of the matter, each one may then determine for himself what his personal relations with these substances shall be. To save the time of the pu])il and to avoid the necessity for a dictionary, a glossary of technical terms used herein is appended. Frank P. Keefer.
