![By means of central slaughtering it has again been possible to carry out a 100% inspection which would not have been possible with the present staff if the slaughtering had been spread over the numerous private slaughterhouses in the district. The diseased meat condemned gives ample proof of the need for regular and efficient meat inspection. Certain cases of Tuberculosis in calves and other bovine animals were reported to the Divisional Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, FOOD PREPARING PREMISES It has not been possible to make inspections of all these premises, such as bakeries, food shops, etc., and inspections have been restricted to premises where the Sanitary Inspector had reason to believe conditions were unsatisfactory. In view of the labour shortage and other difficulties, conditions have been found reasonably satisfactory but it has not been practicable to enforce the requirements of the Food and Drugs Act, 1938, appertaining to these premises. PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER, INFECTIOUS AND OTHER DISEASES. During the year the number of cases of infectious disease has been generally small. Diphtheria Immunisation. From the 1st January to the 31st December, 1944, 224 children under 5 years of age and 67 children between 5 and ] 5 years of age were immunised. At the 31st December, 1944, the estimated percentage of the child population immunised against Diphtheria was : Under 5 years of age.
