    every minutia. Whenever he has an intri- cate case, in his own practice, he will not ac- cuse Mr. Hunter of prolixity. Another caution, of the same kind, is ab- solutely. necessary. ‘I'he student will, on some occasion, find an obscurity, from an anticipation of terms which cannot be well understood, till he arrives at the doctrines to which they relate. ‘This is easily accounted for from the manner in which the work was compiled. I have endeavoured, as often as possible, to relieve him of these difficulties, but cannot easily ascertain whether some parts of the work will be completely com- prehended without a second perusal; at least, of those passages which were found obscure in the first. | Such is the manner which I would recom- mend the student to pursue in the perusal of this work. Those who have seen something of prac- tice, and wish to acquire that systematic knowledge of the disease, which may enable them to act with decision under every diffi- culty, should study principally those sections’ in which the doctrine is contained.
