    rate to dryness and to send out the solid dried serum. The evaporation is carried out in vacuo over sulphuric acid, and a simple apparatus for this purpose was devised by the writer (fig. 14). A large stout bell-jar with ground rim and two tubules, one on the top into which a mercurial gauge is inserted through a rubber cork, the other at the side near the base, which is plugged with a rubber cork, through which a glass tube with stopcock passes, ending flush with the inside and connected the other end by means of thick rubber 'pressure tubing to an exhaust-pump.
