![ANNUAL MEETING • The Annual Meeting of the Governors of the Birmingham and Midland Hospitals for Women (Incorporated) was held in the Council Chamber at the Council House, Birmingham, on Wednesday, 29th March, 1944, at 3.15 p.m. The Lord Mayor, Alderman L. G. H. Aldridge, occupied the Chair, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress. The following ladies and gentlemen were present :— Mr. Barrow Cadbury, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Arthur Smith, Mrs. Alfred Harris, Mr. C. W. Gillett, Mrs. Bindley, Mrs. Ekins,. Mr. Mellor, Mr. R. L. Lloyd, Mrs. Maschwitz, Mr. Kenneth McMillan, Mr. •F. Selby Tait, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C. Aston, Dr. C. E. Purslow, Mrs. Willmott Dobbie, Mrs. Nash, Mrs. Webster, Miss Tolley, Mrs. J. P. Bridgwater, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Riclmrds, Mrs. Raine, Mrs. Major, Miss E. Thorne, Miss E. A. Meik]e, and others. The Secretary read the following letter from the President of the Hospitals Dear Mr. Aston, As President of the Hospitals, I want to tell you how grieved I am notUo be with you all for the Annual Meeting. For some time I have been trying to do more than is possible under present war-time conditions. As a result, I am now obliged to take a rest, and for the present my doctor will not permit any public engagements. Will you be good enough to make these regrets and apologies for absence to the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress and all there present at the Meeting, which I feel is a particularly important one in view of the position of the Voluntary Hospitals under the coming National Scheme. With all my best wishes for the meeting, of which I know you will send me a report. Yours sincerely, {Signed) ANNE CHAMBERLAIN. Various other apologies were received. The Lord Mayor, in moving that the Report and Accounts be taken as iVad, said how very pleased he and the Lady Mayoress were to be present, and to be asked to preside at the Meeting that afternoon. The work of the Women’s and Maternity Hospitals during the last twelve months had showed cpiite a considerable increase.
