    hawkweed, &c. The lily is one of the principal ornaments of gardens in this month; and with its delicate white flowers, gives an agreeable fenfation of coolnefs to the eye. The animal creation feem oppreffed with lan¬ guor during this hot feafon, and either feek the recelles of woods, or refort to pools and ftreams to cool their bodies, and 'quench their thirft. Thefe minute creatures are for the moll part annual, being hatched in the Spring, and dying at the approach of Winter: they have therefore no time to lofe in indolence, but mult make the moff of their fhort exiftence; efpecially as their moft perfect Hate continues only during a part of their lives.
