![2. Sewerage and Sewage Disposal Scheme The Astley Sewerage and Sewage Disposal Scheme was completed during the year. The works are situated beyond Longmorehill Farm v/ith the final effluent discharging into a brook leading into the River Severn. An ejector station was necessary aiid erected at least ;^-mile s}tV3.y within the curtilage of the Water Works, but this has made supervision easier and the cottages von the site have been catered for. The only other improvements to sewage works plant have been carried out at Alfrick where new distributor arms were fitted, and at Hartley where pumping equipment of larger capa.city v/as installed. Serious consideration v/as given to the provision of a sev/erage and sewage disposal scheme for the parish of G-rimle]/, including the village of Sinton G-reen. Various sites for the disposal v/orks v/er-e considered but none of them were very suitable due to lack of dilution available in the local water courses. Eventually it was decided by the Consulting Engineer that it v/ould. be far more satisfactory to provide a joint scheme with the parish of Hallow. The village of Hallow has an existing system of sewers draining to a disposaA works near the Laugherne Brook and it is proposed to enlarge these works. Other considerations in favour of dealing v/ith Sinton Creen sewerage at Hallow are:- (a) The capital cost would be comparable v/ith that of a scheme with disposal works in the Sinton G-reen area, (b) The additional cost of pumping would be less than the cost of proper maintenance of a separate sewage disposal v/orks, (c) The dilution of the effluent in the Laugherne Brook v/ould be more satisfactory. (d) It v/ould be possible to reconstruct the Hallow works, which is already overloaded and thus improve the facilities available for this parish. At present the. Scheme is awaiting Iviinistry approval.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29792952_0012.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
