    there is a principle in one of the fungi capable of producing narcotism in animals by inhalation. It remains to be seen, whether other plants of the same family possess similar powers; and whether a narcotic agent can be obtained from a fungus that shall admit of being employed in practice with no more trouble to the operator, and with less danger to the patient, than are entailed by the anaesthetic agents now in use.
