E.), Adipis Ibj- (jv. D. E.) Mix.) Oper. Stimulant. Use. In itch ; the fourth part of the body should be well rubbed with the ointment every night, till the symptoms disappear. Sulphur should be taken internally at the same time. When the smell is objected to, the following may be used : — Potassce Subcarb. 3jv., Aq. Rosce Hydrar. Sulph. Rubri 3j., 01. Lavand. f3ss., Sulph. Sub- limati 3xj., Adipis Ibjss. Misce. UNGUENTUM SULPHtfRIS COMPOSITUM. L. Compound Sulphur Ointment. (Sulphuris 3jv., Veratri cont. 3x., Potassce Nitratis cont. 3ij., Saponis Mollis 3jv., Adipis ibj. Mix.) Oper. and Use. The same as the former. It is more stimulant. UNGUENTUM SULPHtJRIS IODIDI. L. Ointment of Iodide of Sulphur. {Sulphuris Iodidi contriti 3ss., Adipis 3j- Mix.) Use. For the cure of scabies and psoriasis, but it should not be used if the skin is very irritable. UNGUENTUM VERATRI. Ointment of White Hellebore. (Fe- ratri contriti 3ij., Adipis 3viij., Limonis Olei Ulxx.) Oper. Stimulant. Use. In scabies, and other cutaneous affections. UNGUENTUM ZINCI. L. E. Unguentum Zinci Oxidi, D. Oint- ment of Oxide of Zinc. {Zinci Oxidi 3j-> Adipis 3vj. Mix.) Oper. Astringent, stimulant. Use. In ophthalmia, acrid scabby eruptions, and excoriated nipples. UVA. L. Uvse Passae, E. Vitis Viniferae fructus recenset siccatus, D. Grapes and Raisins. (Vitis Vinifera. The Vine. Pentand. Monogyn. N. O. Vitacece. Temperate climates. 1?.) Prop. Inodorous ; taste subacidulous, sweet, mucilaginous. Oper. Demulcent, nutritive. Use. As the food of the phthisical, and as an acidulous adjunct to the beverages of the sick. Off. Prep. Decoctum Hordei Comp. L. Mistura Hordei, E. UVA URSI. L. E. Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi, folia, D. Leaves of Bear's Wortleberry. (Arctostaphylos Uvce Ursi, Red berried Trail- ing Woitleberry. Decand. Monogyn. N. O. Ericacece. North of Europe. }}.) Prop. Nearly inodorous ; taste styptic, bitterish ; colour of the powder brownish, yellowish-green ; yields its virtues to alcohol. Comp. Tannic and gallic acids ; mucilage, resin, extractive, traces of soda and lime. Oper. Tonic, astringent, and slightly diuretic. Use. In chronic diarrhoea and dysentery ; catarrh of bladder ; leucor- rhcea and diabetes. It has been celebrated in calculous and nephritic complaints ; but it appears to act in the same manner as other astrin- gents, by merely allaying the pain and irritability of the bladder ? In phthisis ? Dose. Of the powder gr. xv. to f3ss. Incomp. Salts of iron, tartar emetic, nitrate of silver, salts of lead, infusion of yellow cinchona bark. Off. Prep. Decoctum Uvce Ursi, L. D.
