![WATER SUPPLY. Tl.'.o water supply to the City of Peterborough remains unchanged- Owing to the excessive waste of water from the Corporation supply, Mr Hoble, Assistant Inspector, was delegated to assist in the waste water inspections of the Waterworks Department, Er Penwill reports that 89,313,000 gallons of water were purchased from the City of Peterborough by the Rural District. The supply has been well maintained at Walton, Gunthorpe, Paston, Peterborough Without, V/errington and Longthorne. * 1 , ^ Owing to the restrictions imp sed by the Ministry of Pensions, wrought N iron pipes have been substituted for lead in house connections. The Bores at Peakirk, Clinton and Helpston oontinuo to yiold fair but diminishing supplies. The first named is still leaking badly. Five samples of water wero submitted to the County Medical Cffloor for analysis and three of these were condemned. Satisfactory water supplies are urgently needed at llewborough, Borough Fen and Castor. Of nine samples taken]in recent years at Castor five have been condemned for gross organic contamination• t * HOUSIHG AITD TOV/H PLA1TN11TG APT 1909. In the City of Peterborough 02 houses wore formally inspected under the above Act as compared, with 27 in 1916, 177 ih 1915, 281 in 1914, 179 in 1913, 115 in 19IB, 55 in 1911 art! 52 in 1910. Only f four new houses were completed during the year. The Corporation is now (19IS) considering the question of actively proceeding with the building of a certain number b.f houses of an excellent type. Mr Penwill remarks that few routine inspections have been carried out under the Act during the -ear owing to the impossibility of getting any repairs executed. Several houses which could have been made habitable at the beginning of War are bye von d now t repair. Mine houses were formally inspected during > the year. One notice was served, nine closing orders we re made, two determined and nine houses wore repaired. Four houseswore completed during the year, three at Garton End and one at paston. Mo plane have been submitted for dwelling houses. The Peterborough Rural District has now decided to build 270 houses in ad-'ition to the 34 , houses already erected .-fir Walton and Dye. ' • .
