SAiVIELING OP 'JAT3R FOR BAGl^RIOLO&ICAL EXAIvIINATIOM PUBLIC ]VIA.IM*S SUPPLY Seven samples were taken from various parts of the district and submitted for bacteriological examination# Check sanples are taken with an Official of the 7fater Company at points selected by the Public Health Inspector# All samples were reported on as being of a high standard of purity# PRIVATE SlIPPLIBS# Samples were taken from the following premises supplied by private bores and wells# Dairy (nov/ in use only as a iiiillc store)# One sample: satisfactory# Farm,farm cottages and private school using their own bore supply for all purposes:- one sample very satisfactory# Terrace of four dwelling houses: Shallow v/ell* one sample very unsa tis- factory. Although these cottages are outside the circuit of the water mains it was possible to connect them with the town supply through farm buildings• There arc nm only two private houses within reach of the water mains not connected thereto# One large office building v/hich has its own private bore supply is connected to the v/ater mains only for fire purposes# FELIXSTaVH; DOCK GOWim'3 SUPPLY This supply ia from a land spring and is piped about trwo miles to the Dock v;here it is sold to shi].^ calling there up to an amount of about fifty tons per week# The v/ater is abundant and the supply chlorinated# Six samples were taken during the year# All v/ere satisfactory but one showed coliform bacilli one in per 100 ml# Although this is within satisfactory limits chlorinated water should not show any coliform bacilli and prompt action y/as taken to check up on the chlorination process# Further samples yielded un- exceptionable results# -11-](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29205360_0029.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
