De Novis Insulis nuper repertis, et de moribus incolarum earundem, per Petrum Martyrem. With fine printer’s mark on last page. Bound by Lortic in full green levant morocco, gilt lines and ornamental sides, gilt panel back, inside dentelles, g.e. Amsterdam, Joannes Steelsius, 1536. £52 Ios. Harrisse No. 218. This work contains two works, the one of which is the famous book of Peter Martyr extracted from the Fourth Decade made by Peter Martyr himself. This abstract is also mentioned frequently in the earlier writers on Mexico, as it mentions the Grijalva Expedition and the first voyage of Darien. The other work is an account of a voyage to the Holy Land made by a German Monk. 1536 A.D. [43] JOHN III (King of Portugal). Portugalliae Regis Literae, ad Paulum III Pont. Max. super insigni victoria, rebusque foeliciter in Oriente gestis. With device of Crato Mylius, the printer, at end. 8 leaves, 4to, bound by Bedford in full morocco, g.e. No place of printing, 1536. f 21x05. Written by John III, King of Portugal, to Alexander Farnese, Pope Paul III, with an account of his victories over the Mohammedans in the East Indies and particularly on the Siege of Diu. King John introduced the Inquisition into Portu- gal and Paul III was the Patron of the Jesuits. This piece appears to be even rarer than those of a similar character put forth by Emanuel, King of Portugal, for while those are described by Brunet and included in the Grenville catalogue, this. appears to be quite undescribed. As a separate edition it is unmentioned in Streits’s. Bibliotheca Missionum., 1537 A.D. [44] [SACRO BOSCO (Giovanni di)|. MAURO (M.). Sphera olgare novamente tradotta con molte notande additione di geometria, cos- mographia, arte navicatoria, et stereometria, proportioni, et quantita delli ele- menti, distanze, grandeze, et movimenti di tutti li corpi celesti, cose certa- mente rare et maravigliose. With fine woodcut borders. With geographical, astrological and heraldic woodcuts. Small 4to, old vellum. Venice, Bartholomeo Zanetti, 1537. £10 Ios.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b31664374_0050.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
