    In the present edition the book has been revised, and in parts rewritten. A considerable amount of new matter has been added, especially in the chapter on The Central Nervous System. In this portion of the subject our know- ledge is advancing ‘ by leaps and bounds,’ and it is difficult to keep pace with it. If, among the many works which I have consulted, I were to single out one as that to which I am particularly indebted, it would be the admirable book of Dr. Barker. The additions in other parts of the volume have been for the most part balanced by the omission of some passages and the abridgment of others, and its bulk is only a little increased. G. N. STEWART.
