Arrangement were made for sixteen members of the crew who were regarded as close contacts, tc have bheir chests x-rayed. This was done and they were all reported to be free from infection. ON THE OCCURRENCE OF MALARIA IN SHIPS. .On 3rd June,J.953, an ordinary seaman from a. tanker homeward bound from the Persian Gulf was landed at Weymouth and admitted to Hospital. He had been suffer from fever for the previous 14 days. It was originally thought that he might be suffering from, enteric fever but all laboratory investigations for this were nogs. The clinicc,l picture was that of malaria. Although repeated examination failed t; Sliox-/ the presence of parasites in his olood be responded immediately to ant<£*-mal therapy and a diagnosis was made accordingly. SSCTIONja.,. NIL MQLWmgi^J'EASURES t;joen AGUNST rodents in ships from foreign ports. 1* Port Health Inspector carried out a detailed inspection for rodents in al ships arriving from foreign ports. 2. arrangements have been made for the bacteriological and pathological examinat of rodents to be carried ou, at the Court Laboratory, Dorchester. No such examinations were carried out during 1958.
