About this work

Description

Portrays the perils associated with smoking. The film starts with a dramatised sequence in a doctor's waiting room. A man has an unexplained cough and attends the surgery with his wife and son (aged about 11). This leads to the doctor, a general practitioner, musing on what the cause might be. Smoking is the likely cause which is demonstrated by smoking machines which show the states of bronchial deterioration. Moving graphics and charts clarify the rates of incidence. Cancer is confirmed and the doctor notifies the wife and son about smoking; the boy smokes occasionally and is told that about the evidence of cancer in doctors who smoke. The final sequences are the woman and the boy at a funeral for their deceased husband and father.
