CHARMINGLY BOUND IN CONTEMPORARY DARK BLUE MOROCCO SUPER-EXTRA, lack and sides inlaid with citron and red morocco, with elaborate floral designs, inluid and richly tooled corner and centre pieces, brass-Lound corners, g. e., with fine floral design painted on fore-edges (see illustration), £18. 18s 1700 An unusually fine specimen of binding, doubtless the work of SamMuEL MEarNE, and but for the faded and slightly rubbed back, in excellent preservation. Apart from the skill necessary to produce such a piece of binding, the artistic design is of the highest order, and may well be classed among the very best contemporary productions of the art. It is interesting to notice its likeness tosome so-called ‘ original’ designs of recent date. 106 KORAN (THE) in PERSIAN, written in Persian characters on 200 Il. of parch- ment; the first 2 pp. illuminated, and every page within a small gold lorder, 24mo.
